The Chaparral PTA welcomes you to the 2008-2009 school year! Your PTA is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our children in many ways, including sponsoring programs.

Does your child come home from school singing new song, excited for their next PE class or get wound up about an upcoming event at school? It is all thanks to YOUR contributions to the Chaparral PTA that those extracurricular activities (and more!) are possible!

Who should join? Dads, moms, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, staff members, friends and even businesses are encouraged to join our PTA. Memberships are individual (not per family) and are specific to each school.

NO meetings! Joining the PTA does not mean you have to attend meetings. Nor does it mean you are promising to volunteer for anything. Joining simply means you believe in the PTA’s goals and voice, and that you support the Chaparral family. You are warmly encouraged and invited to association meetings but we understand that you are busy and might not be able to attend.

Extra bonuses for you! In addition to supporting your child, the school, PE, Music, teacher accounts, grants, assemblies, family fun nights, library books, Reflections, Olympic Field Day, Fitness Club, etc. and simply gaining the benefits of supporting your child at school, there are even more bonuses this year. Every member will receive a “Buy One Get One FREE” voucher for admission to LEGOLAND1. And you will be entered into a random drawing for a special prize (TBA). The higher your membership level, the more chances you have to win!

HOW do I join? Simply print a copy of the membership form, check your desired membership level, complete the member information section and return the form with your payment to Paola Collins, VP of Membership via your child(ren)’s teacher or the school office.

Why should I join? The number one reason to join the PTA is to benefit your child. In addition, you are helping the entire Chaparral family. The PTA can also provide a forum for parenting advice; exchanging ideas along with opportunities to meet other parents and teachers. Members receive access to valuable resources, information and training programs in conjunction with various online resources including Our Children magazine, electronic newsletters to keep you informed on parenting and legislative issues, special discounts and offers from barnesandnoble.com, FedEx Kinko’s, S&S Worldwide and more. Your PTA membership also strengthens the PTA voice so that policy makers in all areas, at all levels will hear a strong, unified message on behalf of children, youth, and families. What is the difference between PTA membership, and the Foundation? Each PTA membership is like a building block of PTA, it’s where we get started in order to provide our students with additional programs and activities not funded by the school or the district. The Foundation helps to provide funding for large capital acquisitions outside the scope of PTA. They are currently focusing on technology (Docucams and LCD screens).

Do I have to attend meetings? No. Meetings are not mandatory but they are an excellent way to find out more about the programs and activities going on at school. They are also a good place to meet other Chaparral parents.

If I joined last year, do I have to join again? Yes. Membership dues are on an annual basis from the day you join until October of the following year.

If I am already a PTA member at another school, do I have to join at Chaparral? Yes. Each school’s PTA operates independently, with the monies benefiting each individual school.

Where does my money go? Each and every membership makes a difference. $5.40 of our membership dues stay to support programs at Chaparral. A small portion ($4.60) of your membership dues also supports local, State and National PTA.
